Installation of WordPress on localhost in 4 Simple Steps:

To install WordPress on Localhost and create a WordPress Localhost website we need to go through a few very simple steps. One step at a time will reduce complexity and create a clear roadmap throughout the process.

Step 1: Download and Install XAMPP

You can download XAMPP from here.

In this official website you will find different versions of XAMPP for different operating systems. As you are a Windows user, click on Windows for XAMPP as indicated by the blue pointer. This may take a few seconds/minutes depending on your network connection.

After downloading the file run setup file and click next

There will be a list box with language and server options. Select your preferences and click Next. Apache and MySQL are essential components of our choice. However, you can select all for future use.

Select your destination folder where you want to save files, where you want to install the software. We like the default in C drive but we leave it as your choice. Click the Next button to begin the initial installation process.

Your Windows security can come with a warning like this. Choose a network and click the Allow Access button.

If you see a language selection option, select your preferred language and click the Save button. And run the installation process.

You see this page, XAMPP installation is complete! Click the Finish button.

Wait until the XAMPP control panel comes on the screen. If not, look for it in the destination folder where you installed the software.

After waiting, Run the XAMPP control panel and click on the Start buttons for Apache and MySQL as shown in the image below.

Step 2: Download Latest WordPress Version 

You can download from here.

Go to the link. Click the download button and download WordPress to a zipped file.

Unzip the downloaded file and name it if you want to name the database. Here, I’m naming it MySite.

Navigate to C>XAMPP>htdocs.

This is the installation location of XAMPP. Copy and paste the MySite folder into the htdocs folder.

Step 3: Create the localhost Database

Go to your web browser and Type localhost/phpmyadmin, and click enter. 

Name the database as  the same name as what you used in the WordPress folder. We used the name MySite for WordPress so I am naming it MySite. Select the collation from the list and press the Create button to create the database.

Step 4: WordPress Installation and Website Creation  

Go to your web browser and type localhost/mysite on the address bar. 

Start this WordPress installation.

Select the language that you preferred.

In the next window, you’ll find a few fields to fill out.

Database Name: Mysite ( Keep it same as the Server name )

Username: root

Password: Keep this field empty. 

Then Click Submit button.

You’ll find the Run Installation button. Click to begin the installation. 

Input the name of your WordPress localhost website.

Choose your preferred username and password for WordPress.

Finally, click on the Install WordPress button. And it’s done!

You have successfully installed WordPress on Localhost and created a Localhost WordPress website for you.

Enter localhost / mysite to visit your localhost website.

To log in to your localhost website, type localhost / my site / wp-admin in the address bar of your web browser.
